The stunning Castle Island is part of the Lough Key Forest Park. The castle takes up most of this small island and you would be doing well to miss it from the visitor centre car park. We were fortunate to visit on a very sunny day with plenty of blue sky which made for some nice photographs of this unique place.

There are several large cracks in the walls and some parts of the structure are leaning which adds to the captivating atmosphere of this castle ruin. See for yourself if you visit Lough Key Forest Park. If you go there in the summer you can rent a rowing boat and row out to the island. Nearby is the equally impressive Cloontykilla Castle but this one is a lot more difficult to find.
